Pilot Peer Specialist Program for People Living with HIV
The Wisconsin HIV Program is requesting proposals for an agency located in Milwaukee to hire and manage Peer Specialists serving key populations living with HIV.

Clients who are struggling to engage in HIV care, fail to adhere to their antiretroviral therapy, and have not achieved viral suppression are ideal candidates for peer support. The Wisconsin HIV Program seeks to improve healthcare outcomes for people living with HIV by offering the support of another person living with HIV who can provide emotional support and health services navigation. The use of Peer Specialists has been demonstrated to be a successful part of community-based and culturally competent health care services and has been proven to increase viral suppression and treatment adherence rates.

The program is a one-year pilot serving people living with HIV in Milwaukee County who have been lost to care and are not virally suppressed. During the pilot, the Wisconsin HIV Program will collect data and undergo formative, process, impact and outcome evaluations. The State of Wisconsin HIV Program will use the results to ensure program goals are being met and to advocate for statewide expansion through additional funding. Please note that the continuation of the program after the one-year pilot is not guaranteed.
